Uniting for a Cause at the McDonald’s Charity Gala

Attending the McDonald’s Kinderhilfe Stiftung Charity Gala in Munich with my wife, Katarina, was a truly unforgettable experience. The event, held at the stunning Eisbach Studios, was a powerful reminder of how impactful our collective support can be in changing lives. Every year, this gala raises crucial funds for the Ronald McDonald Houses, which provide homes near hospitals for families with seriously ill children. This year was no exception, with a record-breaking €1,482,785 raised to support these families in need.

The evening was hosted by the incredibly talented duo, Thore Schoelermann and Jana Ina Zarrella, who guided the event with grace and warmth. It was inspiring to see so many familiar faces and new friends, all coming together for a cause that means so much to so many. The energy in the room was electric, as guests shared stories, celebrated milestones, and contributed generously to the auction. Celebrities like Robert and Carmen Geiss were also in attendance, adding their support to the evening’s mission to make a difference for families in need. Katarina and I were deeply moved by the heartfelt speeches and the genuine sense of community present throughout the night.

I’m thrilled to share that we secured something very special during the auction — an experience that has a unique connection to LCX and is for our community.
While I can’t reveal the details just yet, I can promise that 2025 will hold a fantastic surprise for our LCX community.

Katarina and I are honored to have been part of this magical evening. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organizing the gala and to all those who gave so generously. Your kindness will make a real difference.

Last weekend, Katarina and I had the incredible opportunity to attend the opening weekend of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The Metzger Foundation, as a Patron and Donor to TIFF, was honored to support an event that has become a global beacon for film enthusiasts, celebrating the transformative power of storytelling and the arts. Through our involvement, we are committed to fostering creativity and cultural exchange on an international scale, reinforcing the importance of film in shaping narratives that inspire and connect people worldwide.

TIFF is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, renowned for premiering groundbreaking films and honoring creative visionaries. It serves as a platform for diverse voices, promoting cultural exchange and fostering new talent in the film industry.

Our weekend began with the world premiere of Elton John’s documentary Never Too Late, a celebration of the legendary musician whose work has transcended generations and genres. The documentary, produced by Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, offers an intimate look into the musician’s life, highlighting his incredible journey through personal challenges, creative triumphs, and enduring legacy. Furnish’s production brings a heartfelt perspective, blending deep insight into Elton’s career with a focus on the impact of his music on the world stage.

This was followed by the premiere of Unstoppable, a film that celebrates perseverance and triumph over adversity, with Jennifer Lopez starring in a lead role. The movie tells an inspiring story of individuals facing overwhelming challenges yet finding the inner strength to overcome them. Lopez’s powerful performance adds depth and authenticity to a narrative that underscores the human spirit’s resilience and the importance of never giving up, no matter the odds. Following that, we attended the premiere of Eden, a captivating film exploring moral dilemmas and personal transformation. Jude Law and Daniel Brühl delivered powerful performances, anchoring the film’s exploration of complex themes like identity and self-discovery. Their nuanced portrayals brought a sense of realism and emotional depth to a story that questions societal norms and human desires, making Eden one of the festival’s most talked-about premieres.

The most moving event of the weekend was the Bocelli world premiere of “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe.” Meeting Andrea Bocelli and his wife, Veronica Berti, was an unforgettable experience. The documentary captures Bocelli’s remarkable journey of overcoming many challenges and embracing life fully. His passion for riding horses, skiing, bicycling, and playing chess, despite his challenges, was profoundly inspiring. Hearing his story and witnessing his determination left a lasting impact on Katarina and me, reminding us of the power of the human spirit.

Later, we attended the Golden Globe Evening Reception at TIFF, where we enjoyed conversations with Jennifer Lopez and K-Pop star Kevin Woo. The night was filled with energy, underscoring the vibrant spirit of the festival. Our weekend culminated at the prestigious TIFF Tribute Gala, a celebration of the year’s most outstanding contributions to film, where we celebrated alongside some of the brightest talents in the industry.

For us, supporting TIFF as a Patron Donor reflects the Metzger Foundation’s commitment to nurturing creativity, cultural dialogue, and the arts. We believe that film and art have the power to connect people, inspire change, and create a more inclusive world.
